SUMMARY:Citizen Observatories for Natural Hazards and Water Management
DESCRIPTION:The Eastern Alps Hydrographic District is pleased to invite you to the 2nd International Conference on Citizen Observatories for natural hazards and Water Management  that will take place in the beautiful city of Venice\, Italy. \nCOWM2018 will focus on the potential of Citizen Science in the European (and beyond) innovation landscape\, and in particular in the fields of Environmental Monitoring\, Natural Risks management\, Land use monitoring and management. The Conference will investigate the role and opportunities for active citizen participation in policy making and the new technologies\, methods and advanced modelling to support Citizen Observatories. \nThe Conference will be the stage for all the ongoing citizen science and crowdsourcing initiatives. \nCOWM2018 will bring together social scientists\, surveyors\, engineers\, scientists\, and other professionals from many countries involved in research and development activities in a wide range of technical and management topics related to citizen observatories and their impacts on society. It will be an opportunity to discover how to maximize the benefit of data emerging from citizen observatories.

SUMMARY:WeObserve CoP-interoperability\, Interoperability and Standards for Citizen Observatories
DESCRIPTION:The WeObserve team ran the second face-to-face session\, CoP-interoperability\, Interoperability and Standards for Citizen Observatories\, within the COWM Conference on 27/11/2018\, 14:50-17:50\,  in Venice. The CoP-interoperability\, led by Joan Maso from CREAF\, aimed to improve interoperability among citizen science data and services. It conducted Interoperability experiments under the OGC umbrella\, and had its first experiment underway. The discussions in the session considered aspects and challenges for standardizing data and tools for citizen observations. Activities and demos were presented from the four working groups of the Interoperability Experiment (vocabularies\, data sharing\, data quality\, and single sign-on). \nMore specifically\, CoP-interoperability session addressed the following topics: \n\nStandard vocabularies for Citizen Science\, including project description metadata;\nThe use of OGC standards (e.g. SWE4CS) to support data integration among CS projects\, and with other sources\, esp. authoritative data;\nThe integration of CS projects/campaigns in Single Sign-On system (SSO) federation;\nData quality assessment and documentation\n\nThe agenda and minutes are available here .The session was held on the Palazzo Labia which is located in Campo San Geremia\, Cannaregio 275\, 30121 VENICE (ITALY).   \nTo sign up for a CoP \, please sign up here. \nTo register for the whole COWM Conference\, register here. \nTo register for individual days at COWM to attend CoP events\, register here. \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:WeObserve CoP-engage\, Co-designing citizen observatories and engaging citizens
DESCRIPTION:The WeObserve team ran the second face-to-face session\, CoP-engage\, Co-designing citizen observatories and engaging citizens\, at the COWM Conference on 28/11/2018\, 09:00-12:00\,  in Venice. CoP-engage\, led by Uta Wehn from IHE Delft\, aimed to bring together incentives and barriers for participation\, engagement strategies and citizen-science ethics\, collected among various stakeholders and projects\, in order to develop a common methodology. \nMore specifically\, CoP-engage had the following objectives: \n\nTo identify and define strategic engagement practices and CO co-design aspects and elements;\nTo capture lessons learned (from success and failure) from the implementation of strategic engagement practices and CO co-design versions and tools in differing conditions;\nTo share these methods and lessons learned in CoP-engage\, via the WeObserve Cookbook on Citizen Observatories and via other means.\n\nA key focus of the discussion was an inventory of citizen science-related tools\, especially those for co-designing citizen observatories and engaging stakeholders. The session was held on the Palazzo Labia which is located in Campo San Geremia\, Cannaregio 275\, 30121 VENICE (ITALY). \nTo sign up for a CoP \, please sign up here. \nTo register for the whole COWM Conference\, register here. \nTo register for individual days at COWM to attend CoP events\, register here. \n  \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:WeObserve CoP-impact\, Impact and Value of Citizen Observatories for Governance
DESCRIPTION:The WeObserve team ran the second face-to-face session\, CoP-impact\, Impact and Value of Citizen Observatories for Governance at the COWM Conference on 28/11/2018\, 15:30-18:30\,  in Venice. An Impact CoP World Cafe session chaired by Uta Wehn from IHE Delft explored the impact and value of Citizen Observatories for governance. With one group working on inventorizing methods for capturing impacts of Citizen Observatories on governance\, and a second one on how to capture impact stories\, participants discussed potential socio-economic and environmental impacts of community-based environmental monitoring for public authorities and decision-makers. CoP-impact brought together incentives and barriers for participation\, engagement strategies and citizen-science ethics\, collected among various stakeholders and projects\, in order to develop a common methodology. \nMore specifically\, CoP-impact had the following specific objectives: \n\nTo provide an inventory of ‘tried and tested’ methods for capturing the impacts of COs on governance;\nTo capture CO impact stories/examples of best practice from citizens\, public sector and policy perspectives;\nTo provide guidance on CO impact assessment for the CoP-impact members and beyond\n\nThe Forum was held on the Palazzo Labia which is located in Campo San Geremia\, Cannaregio 275\, 30121 VENICE (ITALY).  \nTo sign up for a CoP (1-4)\, please sign up here. \nTo register for the whole COWM Conference\, register here. \nTo register for individual days at COWM to attend CoP events\, register here. \n \n  \n
